The Fox family also claimed the hoverboard’s lithium battery package was not originally manufactured by Samsung as represented on Amazon’s website. Rather, the hoverboard was a counterfeit product from China.

The Morristown Police Department said last Wednesday, October 26 that they arrested Heather Williams for hitting John Paul Wayne Taylor, 6, as he was getting off the school bus. The incident occurred last Monday, October 24 around 6:05 p.m. at Lincoln Avenue near Kennedy Center.

According to preliminary investigations, Taylor walked around his stopped school bus after getting off when Williams struck him and left the scene of the accident. Taylor went to Morristown Hamblen Hospital for treatment of his injuries of an unknown nature and was back to attending Lincoln Elementary School after four days. Police investigators said Williams admitted she was texting while driving at the time of the incident. She is currently detained at the Hamblen County Jail and was assigned a $70,000 bond.

Nashville resident Stacie Reasonover sued Apple Inc. during the third week of October after Reasonover claimed that her overheating iPhone 6 caused injuries to her right breast.

The lawsuit was filed in the Tennessee Middle District Court in Nashville with Judge Todd Campbell presiding. In her lawsuit, Reasonover said she wants to be compensated for “loss of wages and/or earning capacity” because of the scarring due to her overheating iPhone 6. Tire manufacturer Goodyear has been fined over $1 million over the deaths of factory employees and numerous other employee safety violations at one of its plants in Danville, Virginia.

Virginia’s Occupational Health and Safety Administration (VOSH) cited the company for four willful violations of safety policy, and 118 serious violations. A motorcycle and SUV collision that happened on South Church Street near Rutherford Boulevard in Murfreesboro in on Tuesday, September 20 resulted in one individual getting hurt.

He was listed under stable condition on Thursday, September 22. No one else was hurt during the accident, which is still under investigation.

Kalvyn Johnson-Bey and Carleen Scrogham, parents of 18-year-old Hope, Tennessee resident Xavier Scrogham filed a tort claim for personal injury against the town of Nashville and Nashville police officer Leonard Burch on Friday, September 16. Scrogham was killed after a police chase was started by 25-year-old Burch at 11:36 p.m. on August 29, 2016 on U.S. Route 31.

Burch, who was off-duty at the time of the incident, said Scrogham passed his vehicle on a motorcycle going 120 miles per hour in a 911 cellphone call with Bartholomew County emergency dispatchers. However, the legal counsel for Scrogham’s parents, Trent McCain, said Scrogham “made a mistake” and that “he should not have done what he did.” McCain notes also that Scrogham “was chased by a young man in T-shirts and shorts in a police car for 20 miles out of the officer’s jurisdiction” and that Burch was acting in the capacity of a “power-drunk cowboy” in his pursuit of Scrogham.

National Football League Commissioner Roger Goodell revealed that the league’s 32 club owners will be providing an additional $100 million for efforts to advance medical engineering and research into preventing, diagnosing, and treating head injuries, on top of the $100 million already spent on medical and neuroscience research.

The project, called the Play Smart Play Safe initiative, also mandates that a physician is hired to serve as the league’s official chief medical officer.

Goodell said that the NFL had already made 42 rule amendments – such as employing 29 medical professionals during each game – since 2002.

Three individuals lost their lives during a two-vehicle collision in Athens, Alabama on Sunday, August 28.

According to the preliminary report of Trooper James Rice, one of the victims was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Impala southbound on a 45 mile-per-hour road along Reid Road shortly before 12:00 a.m. when his vehicle crashed into a northbound 2008 Chevrolet.

The Impala overturned and came crashing down in a ditch, facing north, while the other vehicle spun from the impact and came to rest in the same ditch. Rice later noted, “There were no brake or skid marks on the roadway.” Both the driver of the Impala and his passenger were declared dead at the scene while one passenger in the other car died later in the hospital.

General Motors has issued a recall on 4.3 million vehicles to address an issue in which the airbags may not deploy during an accident. So far, one death and three injuries have been tied to this airbag issue.

This recall is contrary to other recent airbag recalls, as those concern airbags deploying at unexpected and unnecessary times, leading to serious or fatal injuries. In the recalled GM vehicles, a sensor for the airbags would sometimes run a diagnostic test while the car was being driven, putting it in a state where it was incapable of deploying the airbags should they be needed. GM plans to address this issue with a software update that will be available at dealerships.
